Adam here!
Every AI company has spent the year promising to build AI into the tools we already use. This week, a decent chunk of that actually shipped.
Claude turned Chrome's side panel into a full workspace. Google Sheets learned to turn a spreadsheet into a working app. And Google Ads will now explain your campaign results in plain English.
But the story I keep coming back to is quieter than all of those: Anthropic has started adding an invisible watermark to everything Claude writes.
If AI helps you write anything that goes out under your name (and these days, that's most of us), this one is worth two minutes of your attention.
Let's get into it.
ANTHROPIC
Claude Now Watermarks Everything It Writes

Image: Anthropic
Anthropic has started embedding an invisible watermark in text written by Claude. You can't see it, it doesn't change the wording, and it travels with the text when it's copied and pasted. Anthropic says it "may persist through some editing."
Files Claude produces (like .png, .jpg and .svg images) also now carry signed "processed by AI" metadata using the C2PA standard, the same content-labelling system used by Adobe and camera makers.
The trigger is the EU AI Act, which requires AI-generated content to be machine-identifiable. But Anthropic is applying it worldwide and across every Claude product, including the app, the API, Claude Code and Cowork. It covers models released after 2 August, older models are being transitioned, and public verification tools are on the way.
So what does it actually mean if Claude helps you draft proposals, emails or content?
A detected mark only means content "may have been processed by Claude". It's not a cheating detector, and Anthropic is upfront about that.
But once verification tools are public, anyone curious will be able to check. And labelling is becoming the default across the industry — Spotify announced "AI Persona" badges for AI-generated artists the same week.
My honest read: this isn't something to panic about. It's something to have a position on before someone asks.
Try this: write a one-line AI policy for your business this week. Something like:
"We use AI to draft faster. Nothing goes out without a human checking it, editing it and standing behind it." If you'd be comfortable saying that to a client, the watermark changes nothing for you.GOOGLE SHEETS
Turn a Spreadsheet Into an App by Describing It

Image: Google
Google has started rolling out Sheets canvas, a Gemini feature that turns a normal spreadsheet into an interactive mini-app. You describe what you want in plain English, and it builds it. No formulas, no coding, no third-party app builder.
And it works both ways: change something in the canvas, and the spreadsheet underneath updates too.
Most small businesses quietly run on spreadsheets, which is why I think this might be the most useful launch of the week:
Your job tracker becomes a kanban board your team updates by dragging cards
Your lead list becomes a simple pipeline dashboard
Your budget sheet becomes a scenario planner you can poke at before making a decision
It's rolling out from 10 August on Business and Enterprise Workspace plans, plus Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Web only and English only for now, so if you don't see it yet, give it a couple of weeks.
Try this: open the spreadsheet your business actually lives in, click the Gemini icon in the side panel, and paste:
Turn this sheet into a kanban board I can update by dragging cards between stages.CLAUDE
Claude's Chrome Side Panel Grew Into a Full Workspace
Anthropic upgraded Claude in Chrome, and the side panel now runs a full Cowork session inside your browser. Claude can read pages, click, type and fill forms, and your conversations now save to your Claude account and pick up again on desktop or mobile. Any skills and connectors you've already set up just work, with no extra setup.
You can also drag extra tabs into Claude's tab group, and it works across all of them at once.
That last bit is the practical one. A surprising amount of small business admin is really just "compare things across five open tabs" — suppliers, quotes, travel options, or that industry portal that doesn't integrate with anything.
Worth knowing: it's included on paid Claude plans, and Anthropic itself recommends keeping it away from sensitive logins like banking. Start with low-stakes research tasks and see how it goes.
Try this: open three supplier or competitor tabs, then ask:
Compare these tabs and give me a table of prices, inclusions and anything unusual in the fine print.GOOGLE ADS
Google Ads and Analytics Will Now Explain Themselves

Google is rolling out Gemini across Google Ads and Google Analytics, and the theme is refreshingly simple: less staring at dashboards, more plain-English answers.
Analytics now opens with an AI summary of what's changed since you last logged in
Ask Advisor (in beta) can benchmark your campaigns against similar businesses
A new Dashboards feature will build custom visual reports from a text prompt (coming soon)
The Google Ads homepage gets AI insight cards, with a prompt box for follow-up questions
If you run your own ads, "how am I actually doing compared to businesses like mine?" used to be an agency question or a spare-afternoon question. Now it's a prompt.
Try this: next time you're in Google Ads or Analytics, ask Ask Advisor:
"How does my campaign performance compare to similar businesses, and what's the one thing I should change?" Worth doing before you set next month's ad budget.
TWEETS OF THE WEEK
MORE AI IN ACTION
AI SYSTEMS LAB

Last week's issue asked a simple question: would ChatGPT recommend your business?
This week inside AI Systems Lab, we turned that question into a playbook. The latest call covered the 2026 approach to SEO, AEO and GEO. In plain English: SEO gets your page ranked, while AEO and GEO get your business named and recommended inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews.
We walked through which pages to optimise for buying searches, how to become a source AI actually cites, and a monthly audit loop (with copy-paste prompts) to track whether AI recommends you — and who it recommends instead.
If you want your business to be the answer the model gives, this is exactly what we're building inside the Lab.
